Bro. Padilla wrote, "We want to ask for your prayers. We are worried about our daughter, Elizabeth. She needs special medical treatment because she drank amniotic fluid when she was born. The doctors have recommended that we take her to a special pediatrician becase she has been slow in learning.
God has used this for good. My daughter's teacher knows that we are Christians, and I took the opportunity to share with him the blessing of knowing the Lord. I asked him about his salvation. He invited me to his house, and when we went, it was a blessing that his wife and aunt were there. We talked to them about salvation, and they received Christ as their personal Savior. His name is Joel, his wife is Maria Elena, and his aunt is Rita. We are now discipling them on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. They, too, have a daughter that is slow because she ingested amniotic fluid when she was born. Please pray for their little girl as well; her name is Renata, and she is nine years old." |
Conversion Experience
I was born in 1976 in Aguascalientes and married Maria Guadalupe Garcia in March 1993. I was raised Catholic and resisted the witness of my wife’s parents and brother for several months. I finally visited their Baptist church in January 1994 and received Christ as my Saviour at a home discipleship meeting they held in February 1994. I was baptized a few days later in a lake.
Calling and Preparation
Bro. Manuel Sánchez, missionary to Perú, preached at a Bible conference I attended, and the Lord spoke to my heart about surrendering to His service. In 1999, we moved from Aguascalientes to San Luis Potosí to attend Bro. Luis Ramos’ church and Maranatha Bible Institute. We graduated in 2003.
The Field
While attending the institute, we began praying for where God wanted us to minister. We are serving in Rodolfo Landeros, a suburb of Aguascalientes. The people are mostly poor, and we know they need to hear the Gospel. In January 2004, we began preparing a place in our home to conduct church services. We also started door-to-door visitation and soul winning. On January 11, 2004, we held our first service and twenty-five attended.
Future Goals
To have a church that will:
- Be missions-minded
- Be soul winners
- Glorify God
- Host missions and family conferences each year
We thank God for your desire to support the work in Aguascalientes.
Aguascalientes, Mexico
Mexico consists of 31 states and one federal district. Spanish is the official language, but one million Mexicans speak other indigenous languages. The population is approximately 105 million and grows by 1.8 million yearly. Mexico’s climate varies from dry desert wasteland conditions in the north to rainy, tropical conditions in the southeast and a mild climate in the central plateau.
Aguascalientes , one of Mexico’s smallest states, is bordered on the south by Jalisco and surrounded on its other sides by Zacatecas. Industry is centered around the capital city, Aguascalientes, but the rest of the state is mostly agricultural, producing beans, chilies, fruit, and maize.
While agricultural states such as Aguascalientes help make Mexico financially prosperous, the spiritual condition of the Mexican people is poor. The Roman Catholic Church has been deeply etched into all areas of Mexican life. Ninety percent of all Mexicans profess Roman Catholicism. It was present in Mexico from the first days of the Spanish Conquest. Throughout the country’s history, the Catholic Church has been the main unifying force of society. Many facets of Mexico’s Catholic Church come from native forms of worship as old gods were identified with saints and included in the Catholic religion. The most potent symbol of Mexican Catholicism is the Virgin of Guadalupe, a manifestation of the Virgin Mary who reportedly appeared on a hill near Mexico City in 1531.
Mexican people are searching for the truth and are open to the Gospel, but groups of American cults such as Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, and Seventh-Day Adventists have gained millions of converts in the spiritually dry hearts of the people.
Thousands are saved each year as Bible-believing preachers tell them of the love of Christ. Pilot American missionaries, with established works, are training nationals in the ministry of the Gospel. National missionaries are sent out by the hundreds each year to win souls in cities, towns, and villages.
Global Church Planters desires to financially help these national missionaries (we call them Pioneers) start thousands of churches in Mexico.
